SubjectThe Gwangju Biennale Appointed Yangwoo Park the former Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Touris

 

Yangwoo Park, a professor at the department of Arts Management, College of Art, University of Joongang and former Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism took office as the president of the Gwangju Biennale after the inauguration ceremony March 2.

 

Yangwoo Park, the president of Gwangju Biennale was appointed as new

president at the 139th board of directors meeting of the Gwangju Biennale held February 27, succeeding the former president, Dongchae Jung.

 

Board of directors of the foundation welcomed president Yangwoo Park saying that he has the right set of capabilities to lay a foundation for the Gwangju Biennale to take another leap forward and enhance international presence as an expert at cultural and art management with extensive experiences of cultural administration and academic expertise on art management.

 

The new president, Yangwoo Park started his career as a government official after passing the Civil Service Examination and has been showing his leadership in the field of art and culture, serving as the head of Korean Council in New York and the Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Also the new president was one of the first generation who went abroad to study art management in UK and is known to have both extensive field experience and in-depth knowledge acquired while teaching art management at colleges and serving as the head of Korean Society of Art and Cultural Management.

 

The new president, who was born in the city of Gwangju is expected to build a bridge between the region and the center and renew the presence of the Gwangju Biennale both home and abroad.
