The inauguration ceremony of the 12th Chairman of the Gwangju Biennale Foundation Jeon Yoon-chul was held with great success.

 

 

The ceremony was held in the Gwangju Biennale Geosigi Hall at 10am on January 13, and was attended by around 200 regional officials from all walks of life, including Mayor Yoon Jang-hyun of Gwangju Metropolitan City, Education Superintendent of Gwangju Jang Hui-guk, Gwangju Biennale Foundation President Chung Dong-chea, and officials in the fields of economy, media, and culture and art.

 

Chairman Jeon Yoon-chul previously served as the 19th and 20th Chairman of the Board of Audit and Inspection of Korea as well as the Minister of Strategy and Finance and Deputy Prime Minister. Chairman Jeon was appointed after a Gwangju Biennale Foundation BOD meeting, held last month.

 

Chairman Jeon first became a public official after passing the Public Administration Examination in 1966. As an expert in finance and economy as well as audit and inspection, Chairman Jeon is expected to raise the international standing of the Gwangju Biennale, which has a history of around 20 years, and build a foundation for further advancement.

 

 

During his inaugural address, Chairman Jeon Yoon-chul said, The continued opening of the Gwangju Biennale has resulted in the strengthening of Gwangjus reputation as a city of art in the global community. The Gwangju Biennale developed into one of the worlds top five biennales in a short period. I regard my appointment to manage an organization that hosts the Gwangju Biennale, a global art event, as a solemn command to contribute to the development of culture and art of Gwangju, which is dubbed the home of art, by leveraging the knowledge and experience I gained while working for 43 years in central administration organizations.

Chairman Jeon added, The Gwangju Biennale Foundation will take the lead in Gwangjus advancement into Asias center of culture and art.

 

 

The inaugural ceremony was followed by a press conference, which was held in a meeting room located on the third floor of the Gwangju Biennale Jemunhun building. During the press conference, Chairman Jeon made known his ambition, vision, and plans as the new chairman.
