The audience and the artist of the month, along with Gwangju Biennale affiliates will engage in a direct exchange regarding Cho’s work at his studio. Cho’s work portrays learned behavioral patterns, dreams and desires using 'images' accumulated over the years and utilizes combined images of the photograph’s surrounding site. Through the sense of time and traces present in his work, Cho portrays generational trends and imprints the uniqueness of his photographs.

Cho has displayed series of works such as (2001-2002), < Boys!, Be Ambitious> (2007-2009), (2011-2012), (2014-2016), (2017~), as well as numerous other works. His early works consist of witty expressions of ‘Korean masculinity’ absorbed semi-forcefully by society and the 'raw energy of youth' which disappeared in fear of reality. His more recent work utilizes empty buildings in redevelopment zones and closed film sites with only traces of the people once there and turns these 'empty spaces' into giant camera obscuras. He overlaps and projects images to capture the fragments of the souls of those that lived as if they are still present in these traces.

This month’s Artist Studio Visit will be noted for Cho’s deepened artistic worldview and inspiration since his recent residency at the Gwangju Museum of Art’s Beijing Creative Center and other interesting information as well as the inclusion of Cho’s series of works.

Cho earned his bachelor’s degree in film and photography at Dongshin University and attended graduate school at the Chosun University to study aesthetics and art history. He was selected as sponsored artist for Space Baba (2007, Seoul) and Art Space Pool (2008), and participated in the Gwangju Biennale Portfolio View Program (2012, 2016). In 2012, he participated in the 9th Gwangju Biennale’s main exhibition with his series.
