    Workshop | Haaweatea Holly Bryson: Rites of Passage and Renewal November 24, 9-10.30pm Hawaii time / November 25, 9-10.30am CET / 4-5.30pm Gwangju time January 15, 9-10.30pm Hawaii time / January 16, 9-10.30am CET / 4-5.30pm Gwangju time Led by Māori Healing practitioner Haaweatea Holly Bryson, this workshop will focus on the processes to mark the transition from one phase of life to another. Together we will explore the three stages of the Rite of Passage, leading to intergenerational healing. What do we want to keep (to hold dear), as we reflect on our relationship with our ancestral and family lineages and consider what we know of our patterns, pain, resilience, values, and gifts? What do we want to carry (perpetuate and share)? And what do we want to compost (transform and change)? This map will show us the “bones” or codes of how humanity transitions and transforms, our consciousness, resiliency, belonging, purpose, revelation, and renewal. Djamila will also introduce examples drawing on the Brazilian Black women traditions, such as the Yalorixás of Candomblé—a polytheist Afro-Brazilian religion where the Orixás represent archetypes for an intersectional political existence. Held in conjunction with the participating artists’ first site visits to Gwangju, the program opened dialogues that usually remain internal to the Biennale’s production, and consisted of a forum, performance, and conversations with the artists. The public program began its first day at Horanggasinamu Art Polygon in Yangnim-dong with an introduction of Gwangju Biennale 2020 by artistic directors Defne Ayas and Natasha Ginwala.     The Gwangju Biennale Foundation will host the GB Artist Studio Visit, a monthly local program. For the month of July, the visit will take place at photographer Cho Hyun-teak’s studio. The audience and the artist of the month, along with Gwangju Biennale affiliates will engage in a direct exchange regarding Cho’s work at his studio. Cho’s work portrays learned behavioral patterns, dreams and desires using 'images' accumulated over the years and utilizes combined images of the photograph’s surrounding site. Through the sense of time and traces present in his work, Cho portrays generational trends and imprints the uniqueness of his photographs. Cho has displayed series of works such as (2001-2002), < Boys!, Be Ambitious> (2007-2009), (2011-2012), (2014-2016), (2017~), as well as numerous other works.     Artist Studio Visit – Noh Yeowoon Wednesday, May 16, 2019 16:00 - 18:00 @ artist studio in Gwangju As part of the "Monthly Gathering" organized by the Gwangju Biennale Foundation, the Artist Studio Visit for the month of May will take place on the 16th, 16:00 - 18:00 at artist Noh Yeowoon’s studio in Gwangju. Visitors will have the chance to engage in a direct exchange with the artist regarding his artwork and gain insight into his new works which are to be presented in his upcoming solo exhibition since his two-year hiatus. Noh’s decade long project Golmoggil (alley), in his signature tone and lyrical atmosphere, shows traces of people yet contains no human subjects. Through this method, he reminds the audience of life while invoking a sense of longing for childhood memories. His series Sideun Kkot (withered flower) is a portrayal of ourselves in which we are swept away and consumed by the perception of others.
