The International Biennial Association (IBA) is a not-for-profit organization that aims to facilitate exchanges and communications among the biennials worldwide and among other biennial related institutions, practitioners and its members. Born out of the long held need for such an organization among and for biennials, IBA’s activities and role encompass a variety of areas: research on biennial related activities and biennial management; hosting IBA's annual meeting, collaboration with the Biennial Foundation's World Biennial Forum, hosting and supporting other international forums and workshops on biennials; publishing report and data collection on biennial activities and their current state; carrying out revenue-generating enterprises to promote biennial activities and its role as the producer of contemporary discourse on arts and humanities; carrying out other supplementary enterprises to achieve the association’s goal.

 

Dr. Yongwoo Lee, president of Gwangju Biennale Foundation, was elected as the first interim president of the IBA at the preparatory committee meeting held in Sharjah this March. The location of the IBA office was finalized in Gwangju for the duration of the first president’s tenure. Under the presidency of Dr. Yongwoo Lee, IBA’s current organizational structure includes the two vice presidents, Marieke van Hal and Bige Ore, and an interim board of directors consisting of 21 biennial representatives and directors.

 

We expect the candidate for the team head position to hold a graduate degree (M.A or Ph.D.); to be knowledgeable and experienced in dealings of international cultural exchange; to be well equipped with both practical and administrative skills. The candidate for staff position is required to have a bachelor’s degree or above; to have the linguistic skills necessary for conducting international cultural exchange and overall skill in office work.

 

The responsibilities of a team head encompass pushing forth and carrying out overall operations of the IBA office. The duties of staffs include the following: to inform and promote the founding of IBA; to establish managerial system and to secure members; to formulate and implement main policies and business plans of the IBA; to maintain organizational structure and administrative rules according to the IBA article; to carry out the motions adopted by the board, president’s policy plans, and other items in hand; to assist IBA president and general secretary in administrative capacity.

 

Also of note is that both positions are offered on two-year contract basis; once notified of the employment, the applicant must relocate to Gwangju.

Supplementary materials include a copy of master’s degree certificate and graduate school transcript, and a statement of performance plan (team head position). For staff position, a copy of bachelor’s degree certificate and undergraduate transcript is required.
