According to the Gwangju Biennale Foundation on the 27th, Siwon Choi was appointed as the honorary ambassador for the 14th Gwangju Biennale, which will open on April 7th, to promote the Biennale domestically and internationally. The Foundation narrowed down the candidate pool to idols who have led the Hallyu culture and have an image that adds a friendly touch to the distinctive sophistication of Gwangju Biennale, aiming to increase diversity in its audience.

Debuting as a member of the group, Super Junior in 2005, Siwon Choi has been continuously expanding his field of activity as a singer, actor, and performer for 18 years. With his refined and restrained image, as well as a friendly personality, he has been evaluated to be in line with the brand of Gwangju Biennale, which aims for diversity and inclusivity in its audience. Since last year, Super Junior has been actively contributing to the Hallyu wave by holding concerts in Asia and South America.

Siwon Choi stated, "I am deeply honored to be appointed as the honorary ambassador for the Gwangju Biennale, which is Asia's most prestigious art festival. There is great meaning in contributing to the development of culture and art. I will do my best to promote Gwangju, the city of art, and Korea to the world." The Gwangju Biennale Foundation expects that Siwon Choi's influence as a Hallyu star will attract young visitors from Asia, as well as contribute to the globalization of Korean contemporary art, known as 'K-ART.'

Previously, Hallyu stars such as Jinyoung (2018), Hyun Bin (2016), Jung Woo-sung (2014), and Lee Byung-hun and Lim Soo-jung (2012) have served as honorary ambassadors for the Gwangju Biennale, working towards the globalization of Korean art.
