Establishes cooperative relationship for the 14th Gwangju Biennale Pavilion Project

The Gwangju Biennale Foundation, the Instituto Italiano di Cultura di Seoul, and the Bomun Welfare Foundation establish a system for exchange and cooperation for the success of the 14th Gwangju Biennale Pavilion Project.
On January 31, the Gwangju Biennale Foundation held a three-way signing ceremony at the Gwangju Biennale Foundation headquarters in Gwangju. Attending the event were the President of the Gwangju Biennale Foundation Park Yang-woo, the Director of the Instituto Italiano di Cultura di Seoul Michela Linda Magri, and the Chairman of the Bomun Welfare Foundation Jeong Yeong-hyun.
The Pavilion Project will be held during the 14th Gwangju Biennale concurrently with the main exhibition. The signing of the memorandum of understanding took place for the success of the Italian Pavilion which is among the nine participating institutions of the Pavilion Project. The Italian Pavilion will convene at the Dong-gok Museum of Art, which is operated by the Bomun Welfare Foundation. Also on January 31, the Bomun Welfare Foundation delivered a total of 20 million won in donations to the Gwangju Biennale for the exhibition of the Italian Pavilion.
Through this agreement, the organizations aim to contribute to the development of cultural and artistic projects of each institution through mutual exhibition planning and promotion, to establish an organic cooperation system for human and material exchanges, and to promote friendship and cooperation with each other.
Yang-woo Park, President of the Gwangju Biennale Foundation, said, "The Gwangju Biennale Pavilion Project, which began in 2018, will be the largest ever during the 14th Gwangju Biennale this year," adding, "The Italian Pavilion, which is organized by the Instituto Italiano di Cultura di Seoul and the Bomun Welfare Foundation, is more meaningful in that the two organizations have set up a mutual space for cooperation through this exhibition."
Michela Linda Magri, Director of the Instituto Italiano di Cultura di Seoul, said, "It is a great honor to introduce Italian artists together with the Gwangju Biennale, which since its first edition in 1995 has established itself in Asia as well as the world." She added, "We hope it will lead to greater opportunities for cooperation between our two countries."
Jeong Young hyun, Chairman of the Bomun Welfare Foundation, said "We are excited to present an exhibition that will showcase the latest trend in Italian art, which is considered by many to be the home of Western art," adding "We hope the Italian Pavilion provides Gwangsan-gu, an area relatively marginalized in the fields of arts and culture, and its citizens with enjoyment that will invigorate Gwangsan-gu through the power of arts and culture."
