Vladan Joler's two-part lecture explores the invisible layers and networks behind the main technological platforms using several investigative and forensic methods. On October 17th, in his first talk "Forensics of Exploitation," Joler will discuss the invisible matrix of human labor, energy consumption and resource extraction that is hidden behind digital networks and Artificial Intelligence. Specifically, he will take the home assistant Amazon Echo as a case study of black box technology and, step by step, reconstruct its design and the relations of each component with planetary ecology and economy. On October 18th, in his second talk titled "New Extractivism," Joler will guide us through the maze of concepts and allegories that describe contemporary techno-capitalism. This process will eventually help us to map and understand structures, business models, and practices of contemporary techno giants as an extractivist system of exploitation.
